HARVARD MEN ACTIVE IN WAR

Many Engaged in French Red Cross Service.--Others Enlisted in Armies.

From scraps of information that are gradually being collected, it is now evident that a great number of Harvard men are playing a part in the European war. Some of these are actually on the firing line of the allies, but the majority are engaged in Red Cross work. Many graduates of the Medical School have volunteered as surgeons in the European hospitals, while other alumni are acting as ambulance drivers and attendants.

A list of Harvard men attached to the American hospital in Paris and the American ambulance hospital as surgeons includes the following: Dr. Hamilton Rice '98, Dr. Richard Derby '03, Dr. Joseph Hoguet '04. Others engaged as chauffeurs or drivers in France are: R. H. Post '91, J. S. Cochrane '00, C. T. Lovering, Jr., '02, F. T. Colby '05, O. D. Filley '06, W. G. Oakman, Jr., '07, D. P. Starr '08, Waldo Peirce '07, G. S. Taylor '08, E. C. Cowdin, 2d, '09, J. H. Stevenson '09, Lovering Hill '10, C. F. Frothingham, Jr., '11, E. O. Munn '14, and J. P. Brown '14.

C. H. Russell, Jr., '14 and G. W. Minot '14 are serving as attaches to the American embassy at Berlin. They volunteered their services at the outbreak of the war to assist in the increased work of the embassy, necessitated by the taking over the interests of several of the belligerent nations.

R. B. Southgate '15 was in the bank of the American Citizens' Association in Berne, Switzerland, during the summer.

D. W. King '16 has enlisted in the second foreign regiment of the French Army and with Alan Seeger '11 of the same regiment is probably stationed at Toulouse. This regiment is supposed to have gone to the front two weeks ago.

L. Brokenshire '16 has given his address at the College Office as G. Co., 5th R. H. C., 13th Battalion, 4th Brigade, Camp Valcartier, P. Q.

W. Pyemout, LL.B. '14 and A. Augias-Turenne, LL.B. '14 are serving in the English army and are thought to be still in England.

C. W. Day, G. S. '14, is a lieutenant in the Canadian expeditionary force, 14th Princess of Wales Own Fifles.
