FIRST 1917 SOCCER GAME LOST

Freshmen, However, do Well Considering, Shortness of Practice.

The 1917 association football team lost its first game on Saturday, being defeated 2 to 1 by the Svea team; a Swedish eleven from Prospect Union. A strong west wind, combined with the superior weight and experience of the Svea team were the principle factors in the Freshmen's defeat. Svea's scoring was all done in the first half when the wind was favorable, while the one goal for the Freshmen was tallied by Bates in the second half. In spite of the defeat the performance of the 1917 eleven was quite satisfactory, considering its limited experience and the short time for practicing which it has had.

The Freshmen lined up as follows: g., Feeney; r.f.b., Darrow; l.f.b., Thurber.; r.h.b., Means; c.h.b., Reilly; l.h.b., Bean; r.o.f., Mantel; r.i.f., Smiley; c.f., Rogers; l.i.f., Bates; l.o.f., Warren.
