DORMITORY CLUBS FOR FRESHMEN

Every Man in 1918 Class Who is Able to Sing to be Enlisted.

The Freshman Glee Clubs will start work in about two weeks, under the direction of Dr. A. T. Davison '06.

The plan to be followed this year is very different from that which has been in use in previous years. Instead of a regular club, patterned after the University organization the Freshmen will have three clubs, one for each dormitory. It is planned to have every man in the class a member of one of these. Men who live outside the dormitories, but wish to sing, will be assigned to one of the three clubs. Each club will be under the direction of a Freshman leader who will be chosen soon after the work commences, while all three will be under the direct supervision of Dr. Davison.

In the spring the three dormitories will hold a competition, similar to the In- tercollegiate Glee Club Meet held in New York last spring, the winning club to be awarded a silver cup, which will be competed for annually. In this competition certain pieces will be sung by all of the dormitories, while the others will be selected by the three leaders. In awarding the cup, the judges will take into account the quality and technique of the singing, rather than the volume. The regularity of attendance at rehearsals will also be taken into account, the dormitory having the highest percentage receiving a certain number of points toward their total. Since it is hoped that every man in the class will sing, and since attendance percentages will be based upon the total number of men in the various dormitories, all men should be as regular as possible in their attendance, in order to swell their dormitory total, and so assist in securing the cup for their common room
