HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
We have read about the Harvard graduates who have died on the battle fields of Europe and have occasionally praised their brave deeds; today every member of the University can honor these heroes by attending the commemoration service in Appleton Chapel.
We hold in highest esteem those who have given their lives for France, not because it was for France, but because it was their lives they gave. They are worthy of our full honor. He who dies for a cause, good or evil, lost or victorious, has done a great thing independent of the cause for which he died. He has paid the last full measure that a man can pay.
To be remembered also are the hundreds of Harvard men who have served in small or great measure a cause they considered worthy of personal sacrifice. May the University attend this service as one man and thus commemorate the deeds of a brave band of its graduates.
