In view of the brilliant season of the hockey team, something may be said in justification of this branch of athletics as a major sport. Two facts stand out indisputably. Hockey at Harvard is, and has been, a highly successful sport. Several championships have been registered in it for the University; and a similar record is apparent with the Freshman teams. Secondly, it holds pre-eminence as a winter sport, especially since swimming is handicapped by the lack of a pool. Including managerial competitions and scrub teams, more than 200 men are concerned with hockey during the season, and this number compares favorably with other major sports. Hence, it is quite evident that hockey has thoroughly justified its present status in the University's athletic activities.
