FOUR FRESHMAN CREWS ON RIVER

University B Went From Lynn to Nahant Yesterday Afternoon.

The first four Freshman crews had their first row on the Charles River yesterday afternoon. Since the ice is still blocked in front of Newell Boat Club, all crews rowed from Weld Boat Club, the stretch from the Anderson Bridge to the Western Avenue Bridge being clear. The current is now rapidly taking the ice downstream, and all crews should be able to row from Newell the first of next week. There are now 12 crews rowing on the water, eight University, and four Freshman.

University B had its usual practice at Lynn yesterday afternoon, rowing over the course from the Farragut Boat Club to Nahant and back. University A did not row.

The Freshman crews did not seem at all bothered by the change to the shells, and both the first and second crews showed commendable form. The real work of getting the crews in shape for their first race with Cornell in May will now begin, and although there is a great deal to be done by way of perfecting the form, yet the 1919 crews appear to be well up with the average Freshman crews.

The present order of the first and second Freshman crews is as follows:

First Freshman.--Stroke, R. S. Emmet; 7, J. F. Linder; 6, G. L. Batchelder; 5, F. Parkman; 4, W. R. Odell; 8, L. Nichols; 2, D. A. Freeman, Jr.; bow, G. D. Leighton; cox, C. D. Murray.

Second Freshman.--Stroke, W. C. Chanler; 7, C. W. Greenough; 6, W. M. Aikin; 6, E. Richards; 4, C. Canfield; 3, R. Cobb; 2, F. B. Whitman; bow, R. E. Strawbridge; cox, D. Read.
