In the second annual Lee Wade II Prize speaking contest held in Sanders Theatre last evening, Vernon Brown Kellett '18, of Hopedale, was awarded the first prize of $25, George Mair '16, of Jamaica Plain, was awarded the second prize of $15, and Tracy Jackson Putnam '15, of Boston, was awarded the third prize of $10. Each contestant recited Joseph Rodman Drake's "Ode to the American Flag."
An enjoyable musical program was furnished by Signora Wilhelmino Lavino, Master Walter Zapolski, and the University Glee Club quartet. The judges were the Reverend Dr. Elwood Worcester, the Reverend Prescott Evarts '81, and Professor Charles Parker, of the University. Dr. Francis Henry Wade awarded the prizes, and R. T. Fry '17, president of the Speakers' Club, presided.
