TENNIS MEN WON ALL NINE MATCHES FROM HARTFORD

Several Close Matches in Contest with Golf Club,--1919 Beat Andover.

The University tennis team defeated the Hartford Golf Club, 9 matches to 0, at Hartford, last Saturday afternoon. The best individual match was that in which G. C. Caner '17 defeated R. H. Cole, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. With the exception of this match, in which the play was close and steady throughout, the other results were practically foregone conclusions, although Captain R. N. Williams, 2d, '16 took three sets to defeat Cole.

The following is the summary: Singles,--Captain R. N. Williams, 2d, '16 defeated F. W. Cole, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4; G. C. Caner '17 defeated R. H. Cole, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5; W. Rand, 3d, '17 defeated J. M. Holcombe, Jr., 6-2, 6-2; H. G. M. Kelleher '18 defeated A. W. Merriam, 7-5, 6-4; J. S. Pfaffmann '17 defeated P. Roberts, 6-0, 6-0; J. S. Brown, Jr., '17 defeated P. S. Sheldon, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. Doubles.--Caner and Rand defeated Merriam and W. Roberts, 6-3, 6-1; Kelleher and Brown defeated Holcombe and P. Roberts, 8-6, 0-6, 6-1; Williams and Pfaffmann defeated F. Cole and R. H. Cole, 6-0, 6-1.

Freshmen Defeated Andover 7 to 2.

The 1919 tennis team defeated Phillips Andover Academy 7 matches to 2, at Andover, last Saturday afternoon. Barber and Harrison were the two members of the Andover team who prevented a clean sweep by the Freshmen. Captain R. C. Rand '19 easily disposed of J. M. Weber, his former partner in the National Indoor Junior Doubles Championship, by the score of 6-3, 6-3. C. H. Harrison, the winner of the University Interscholastic Championship tournament in Singles, defeated F. P. Ritchie '19, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The following is the summary: Singles--R. H. Kissell '19 defeated K. S. Pfaffmann, 6-3, 6-4; F. W. Hatch '19 defeated C. H. Bradley, 7-5, 6-2; W. H. Barber defeated L. K. Garrison '19, 6-3, 6-4; F. M. Warburg '19 defeated Fischer, 6-4, 8-6; C. H. Harrison defeated F. P. Ritchie '19, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3; Captain R. C. Rand '19 defeated J. M. Webber, 6-3, 6-3. Doubles--Rand and Kissell defeated Webber and Pfaffmann, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3; Hatch and Ritchie defeated Harrison and Fischer, 6-3, 8-6; Warburg and Stevenson defeated Barber and Bradley, 11-9, 6-4.

The Freshman team will play a picked team from the Law School, on Divinity Field, this afternoon, at 4 o'clock.
