WAR WILL BAR YALE ATHLETICS

Small Chance of Resumption Next Year Council Asserts.

Athletics at Yale may not be resumed next fall or before the close of the war. This conclusion is the result of a canvass of members of the Yale Athletic Council whose opinion is that too many athletes have left college or plan to do so before fall. A success of athletics under the conditions imposed by the war is virtually impossible, it is said.

Of the class of 1918 fully half of the athletes and nearly half the class numerically will be in military service before the close of the summer. The percentage of athletic stars from the sophomore class who are leaving is as great.

If, however, an attempt should be made to build up new teams from substitute material, a practical difficulty of adjusting the hours of athletic practice with those of military drill must be faced. Yale, however, will be represented at the conference of the National Collegiate Association, held in Washington during August.
