FIRST BALL GAME OF SEASON WON BY FRESHMAN NINE, 4-3

Hits Kept Scattered in Nine Innings of Play in Cage; Eight Errors Made.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In the first nine-inning baseball game of the season yesterday the Freshmen defeated the University nine, 4 to 3. The play was fast throughout, and the errors made were largely due to the small size of the cage. Both sides' hits were kept well scattered, and no one man succeeded in connecting safely more than once. A double by T. H. Gammack '20 was the only extra-base hit of the afternoon.

The teams lined up in the following order:

University.--Evans, c.f.; Wolverton, 2b.; Jones, 1b.; Hallowell, 3b.; McCouch, r.f.; Gross, ss.; Ward, l.f.; Gammack, c.; Pierson, Mosle, O'Keefe, p.

Freshman.--J. T. Baldwin, ss.; G. S. Baldwin, 2b.; Frothingham, 1b.; Davis, r.f.; Meehan, 3b.; Crane, l.f.; Lee, c.f.; Blair, c.; Butterfield, Bigelow, Geary, p.   R.  H.  E. Freshman,  4  7  3 University,  3  6  5
