THE CHARLES RIVER RINK.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Since the elimination of the Boston Arena by fire a short time ago the Charles River has become the best available skating rink for members of the University. As though cognizant of the responsibility of making good thus placed upon it, the river, aided by the present cold weather, has produced an excellent surface of smooth ice, which has brought out many skaters in the last few days.

As a skating rink, however, the river has one serious handicap. There is no safe place to leave shoes or surplus clothing. A skater must either be burdened by carrying these cumbersome things with him or trust them to the uncertain honesty of the small boys along the banks, who may or may not be present at the time of reckoning. To abolish this inconvenience the Locker Room of either the Weld or University Boat Club should be opened for use. Possible confusion of articles could be avoided by keeping an attendant there to check them for a small fee. If the Locker Room were also heated as a place for skaters to warm themselves it would aid still more in making skating on the wind-swept Charles enjoyable, and it would add greatly to the popularity of this natural rink which is conveniently situated to furnish healthful exercise to students in the University.
