TRACK MEETING MARKS START OF NEW SYSTEM

FIFTY MORE MEN REPORT

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Every man in the University who intends to become a candidate for the University or 1923 track teams or who is interested in the sport should report at the mass meeting in the Living Room of the Union tonight at 7 o'clock. The group of speakers who will outline the new system and explain the plans for this season includes W. M. Rand '09, a member of the graduate track advisory committee, W. F. Garcelon '95, former graduate treasurer of the H. A. A., R. B. Wigglesworth '12, R. T. Fisher '12, head coach of the University football team, and Dr. Charles Whelan, supervisor of track.

Tonight's meeting will officially launch the new system for track which it is hoped will put the sport on a par with its standing at Yale, Princeton, and Cornell. The speakers plan to show, by comparison with other colleges, the importance of having a large squad in order to develop a team which shall bring consistent victories.

Fifty New Men Report.

Over fifty new men reported for the University and 1923 track squads yesterday afternoon, swelling the total to a little over two hundred. The men have all been assigned to squads, each squad reporting to its captain at a fixed time. Under this plan every man can receive individual attention from his captain.

In yesterday's practice, Coach Donovan had the sprinters and distance men out on the cinders, while Coach Farrell gave the field event men their workout under the Stadium.

In a short talk to 1923 candidates in the track room, Dr. Whelan urged every man to try to get another man out for track today, saying "We must have a squad of at least 100 Freshmen, for from this class will be picked the men who will compose the University team in the next few years."
