UNIVERSITY AND 1924 OARSMEN CALLED OUT

MANAGERS TO GET SILVER MEDALS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University crew candidates will be called out on Wednesday, February 16. At a meeting at Newell boat-house Captain L. B. McCagg '22 and Coach Haines will outline the plans for the season. There will be organized rowing on the machines and in the tank until the river opens. If, however, the ice stays in the river till late in the season, the first crews may go down to Lynn as they did last year. This meeting is important and all men are requested to be prepared to fill out cards giving the times of their classes and laboratory periods.

On Monday, February 14, the Freshman crew candidates and the Freshman crew manager candidates will be called out. The former will meet in the Smith Halls Common Room at 7 o'clock and Dr. Howe and Coach Haines will outline the plans for the season. The first, second, and third crews chosen largely from the first dormitory crews will row in the tank until the river opens while the lower crews row on the machines or in the tank if there is room for them.

24 Managers Out Monday

The Freshman crew manager competition this year has been changed and made more attractive in several ways than previous ones. It will start with a short but very important meeting on Monday, February 14 at 1.05 sharp when the competition will be explained by manager Elmer Long '21. It will last only twelve weeks and will end May 2. As a result of this competition the places of manager, assistant manager, and three second assistant managers will be filled. The manager and assistant manager will both go to Red Top with the crew and will be awarded their numerals. The three second assistant managers will be appointed members of the Regatta committee and will be in charge of the Harvard Invitation Regatta which will be held probably some time in May. One innovation this year is that these second assistants will receive silver medals for their work.
