Freshman dormitory crews and teams are now organized and practicing for the coming inter-dormitory contests. During the last week in October the Fall regatta takes place, in which men rowing single sculls will be entered for the first time this year because of the large number of single scullers. Coach Wachter is now directing 73 men in singles. The dormitory eights, which Mr. Herbert Haines is coaching, will race in the same regatta, the winning crew scoring five points in the Fall inter-dormitory contest. The second crew gets three points and the last one point.

Likewise inter-dormitory football games will be played, beginning next week, and continuing until the Princeton game. Coach W. B. Snow '18, has appointed a separate coach for each dormitory eleven. There is sufficient material for a squad of at least 15 for each dormitory in addition to the 45 on the Freshman squad.

On Friday, October 13, the Freshman harriers will hold their inter-dormitory contest. Next week tennis and handball contests will be started between picked representatives of each dormitory under the direction of Mr. Harry Cowles, the recently appointed racquet instructor, and Mr. Samuel Chase '22, former University basketball player.

These contests have been intended to stimulate interest in the sports which Freshmen take up, and they have been successful in a surprising degree. During the three years in which the contests have been carried on the smallest dormitory, Standish, has won four times, Smith three times, Gore twice. The name of the winning dormitory of the Fall contest will be inscribed on the shield which is located in each of the three Common Rooms.
