Thirty members of the University at tended the third R. O. T. C. camp at Edge wood Arsenal, Maryland last summer Field Artillery units from the University Yale, Princeton, Cornell, end Virginia Military institute were represented while infantry detachments from many smaller colleges were encamped in the same area. In all about 800 students received intensive training in field artillery or infantry work.

The first detachment of students arrived at Edgewood on June 18 but for the first few days the work was confined to elementary gun drill and conditioning exercises. By June 25 the rolls were nearly complete and the men were permanently organized into batteries and more intensive and practical work was begun.

The morning drill period was largely taken up in actual firing conducted by advanced students, while the afternoon periods were devoted mainly to battery drill, mounted, reconaissance and pistol practice. The period from 3.30 to 5.30 was set aside for athletic contests and regular interbattery contests were scheduled in baseball, tennis, golf, boxing, and wrestling.

In the last week the entire artillery unit took a five day mounted march, stopping for a day and a night at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds to witness a demonstration of many types of light and heavy artillery, bombs, machine guns, seaplanes, and tanks. Immediately on arrival at the proving grounds the R. O. T. C. unit went into "action" and laid down a rolling barrage which was very favorably commented upon by the officers.
