RUTH FAILS TO SHINE BUT YANKEES WIN IN WALKAWAY

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The New York Yankees knocked two pitchers out of the box in the same number of innings yesterday afternoon and won the fifth game of the World's Series 8-1.

The Yankees scored three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second; but they did not win merely at a moment when the Giant's pitchers lost control, for they accumulated 14 hits before the game ended, whereas the Giants got only three. Also the Giants registered two errors, the Yankees none.

The 65,000 fans who were present saw neither "Babe" Ruth or Casey Stengel clout the ball for the circuit, but Dugan of the Yankees made a round of bases, saving the spectators from disappointment.

Score by innings: Innings  1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9 Giants  0  1  0  0  0  0  0  0  0 Yankees  3  4  0  1  0  0  0  0  0
