1927 FRESHMAN RED BOOK GETS UNDER WAY TONIGHT

LAMONT AND NICHOLS SLATED AS MAIN SPEAKERS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Competitions for the editorial, business, photographic, and arts and cuts departments of the 1927 Freshman Red Book will begin tonight at a meeting for all those who wish to compete in the Standish Hall Common Room at 6.30.

The meeting will be conducted by Austin Lamont '27, editor-in-chief of the Red Book. W. I. Nichols '26, editorial chairman of the 1926 Year Book will briefly tell of the purpose of the publication. Following this speech each chairman will outline his competition to the candidates for that department.

The editorial competition will consist of writing reviews of the various Freshman activities, and epilogue and prologue to the publication, and a history of the class. A few assignments will be given out to all the candidates to be prepared in a week. On the basis of this work cuts will be made about once a week. At the end of a six-week competition eleven men will be taken on the board.

Soliciting advertisements will be the chief duty of those aspiring to the business board. The competition will be run on a point basis. A second competition will be held among the eleven taken on the board at the end of the first for the position of sub-chairman.

The photographic candidates will have charge of making up the class directory and illustrating the various Freshman activity reviews. Photographic ability is not essential.

Artistic ability and humor are the important qualities for arts and cuts candidates. Assignments will be given and will form a basis on which the merits of the various competitions will be judged.
