SMALL TURNOUT GREETS COACH AT START OF HARRIERS' SEASON
But Farrell Expects More Candidates to Appear Soon
Only a small scattering of the University's runners responded to the call for cross country candidates at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon in the Locker Building.
Twenty-four men reported for the University team, while but 16 Freshman candidates appeared.
The season was started off with short talks by Manager J. C. Collins '25, Captain W. L. Chapin '26, A. L. Coburn '24, captain of last years team, and Coach E. L. Farrell.
Coach Farrell attributed the small attendance at the opening session to no lack of interest in the sport but to the fact that there had been a good deal of misunderstanding as to the time when the cross country season was to start, as there had been some delay in announcing the day on which the squad was to meet. He expects an increased attendance later in the week when the squad begins its afternoon workouts around the Charles river course.
