BYRNE ABANDONS POST AS MEMBER OF CORPORATION

James Byrne '77, has resigned his position as a member of the Corporation, it was announced yesterday. Mr. Byrne, a New York lawyer, has cut short his services to the University during his 26-year tenure of office by his sudden resignation.

Mr. Byrne was elected to the Corporation of the University in 1900, to in the vacancy created by the death of H.L. Higginson '82. He was graduated from the Harvard Law School in 1882, and a year later started practicing law in New York City. He has served as a regent of the University of the State of New York, and has been president of the American Bar Association. For his work with the American Red Cross during the world war, he was made an officer of the Crown of Italy and was also appointed a chevalier in the Legion of Honor of France.
