The Debating Union will hold a meeting at 8 o'clock tonight in the Union. The subject for discussion will be: "Resolved, that this house regards the Fascisci government as the best one for Italy at this time."
Heckling Win Be Allowed
The affirmative win be upheld by W. C. Poletti IL and K. J. White '27, while W. S. Stone '26 and C.T. Lane '26 will take the negative.
The first part of the evening will be devoted to the prepared speeches. Each spoker will be allowed 15 minutes, the members of the two sides speaking alternately. During these speeches, any member of the house is permitted to object or question the speaker on any point if the speaker yields. It is expected that the reintroduction of heckling will provide an even more spirited debate than in the past and that it will provide ample opportunity for repartee.
Seasoned Debaters
E. J. Metzdorf '26, president of the Debating Union, stated last night. The scheduled speakers are all seasoned debaters who have spoken before the college in the past. Mr. Stone is an editor of the CRIMSON and was formerly secretary of the Debatting Council, while Mr. Lane was formerly president of the Liberal Club.
After the prepared speeches, the discussion will be thrown open to the house. All members of the University will be permitted to speak; preference being given to Debating Union members.
During recent debates before the Foreign Policy Association, Fascismo has been hailed as the salvation of Italy; it has likewise been decried as the loss of liberty.
Metzdorf, discussing the subject, said: "The subject is certainly a lively one and interest is perhaps keyed up a little higher by the element of danger. Recent laws of the Italian government make any arraignment of Fascismo an offense. Italians attending the debate and guilty of this may be deprived of their citizenship and refused entry into the United States in the future."
