HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
The judges for the preliminary trials and the rules for the Pasteur Medal speaking contest were announced last night.
Professor R. L. Hawkins '63, Professor N. C. Maynard, and Professor L. J. A. Mercier will be the judges for the preliminary trials, which will be held on February 17 at 8 o'clock in Sever 36. At these trials, the candidates will deliver five minute speeches treating either side of the subject, "Resolved; That the adoption of the Franco-American debt settlement is to the best interests of France" Six men will be chosen to speak in the finals on March 3. These speeches will be of 10 minutes duration, and on either side of the question.
Professor Mercier announced that this discussion is not a debate, but rather an oratorical contest.
