FAN NOLI '12, EX-ALBANIAN PREMIER, SENTENCED TO DIE

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Fan S. Noli '12, Harvard graduate, author, translator, orthodox priest, bishop, liberal, and former premier of Albania, has been sentenced to death. This sentence has been given him and eight of his compatriots for recently signing a manifesto protesting against the regime of Ahmed Zogu, who executed a coup d'etat in December, 1924, ousting Fan Noli from the Presidency. The sentences were by default, however, since all of the condemned men are living abroad.

Fan Noli has been prominent in Albanian political affairs for a number of years. He has the honor of being the first Albanian delegate to the League of Nations. In addition to his political work he has translated Longfellow and Shakespeare into the native dialect.
