METHODS OF CLASS CREW CHOICE MAY BE CHANGED

Plans pointing to a substantial change in the method of selecting class crews and the third University boat were sketched yesterday by Coach Brown to the University oarsmen assembled in the Varsity Room at Newell Boathouse.

Coach Brown declared that the class crews have often felt that the crew selected to race Yale was really not the best eight. Men who have rowed in these class shells have suggested that the results of three prelinduary races should determine the choice of the crew to be sent to Derby. But even when this is done, Coach Brown said, the feeling of injustice is apt to remain, so it is probable that a committee from the class eights will meet with the coaches this year to choose the representative boat.

Class Crew Discussed

Eligibility of men who have rowed in the class crew race against Yale to the third University eight has always furnished another bone of contention, it was indicated. Consequently Coach Brown intends to submit this to a vote of the men concerned.

In picking the combination crew the best oars available will be chosen. Formerly it has been customary to have a definite number of Freshmen and a definite number of upperclassmen, usually four of each. It is necessary to have two Freshmen in this outfit for substitutes, but if the other six positions may best be filled by upperclassmen the coaches will not hesitate to do so.

A part of the meeting was taken up by a demonstrated lecture. From pictures of various crews Coach Brown pointed out defects to which certain members of the squad are susceptible.
