WIDENER LIBRARY GETS VALUABLE MATHER BOOK

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A valuable addition to the Widener Library's collection of rare books has just been received in the form of a copy of the "Magnalla Christi Americana" or the "Ecclesiastical History of New England".

The book was written by Cotton Mather, and published in London in 1702. It was presented to the library by Miss Louisa Loring Dresel of Cambridge in whose family the book has been handed down for over 200 years.

Although there are a number of copies of the work still extant, this particular volume is considered to be of special value because of its excellent condition, its well-preserved map the length of time it has remained in one family, and especially for its appended Errata which is lack-in most of the other copies.
