DEMOS MADE GUGGENHEIM FELLOW FOR 1927-28 TERM

Raphael Demos, Ph.D., '19, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, has been awarded one of the John Simon Guggenheim fellowships for 1927-28. He will study the philosophy of evolution and social philosophy in France.

Followship grants for 1927-28 were made to 63 persons, among whom Professor Demos is the only Harvard representative. The other beneficiaries come from 22 states and from 29 educational institutions. The University of Chicago tops the list with four fellows and the University of Minnesota follows with three. The list includes five women.

The John Simon Cuggenheim Memorial Foundation has a capital fund of $3,5000,000, the gift of Senator and Mrs. Guggenheim. The entire income totalling $143,000, is devoted to the award of Fellowships to scholars and artists who have demonstrated unusual capacity for productive scholarship or remarkable creative ability. The stipend is usually $2500 and offers, opportunity to carry on research and creative work abroad. For he 1927-28 grants 600 applications were received.
