HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
Playing off the finals of the Sophomore Class tennis tournament L. D. Wirth '29 defeated J. M. Galanis '29, by a score of 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, thereby winning the class championship. Wirth, playing in the semi-finals, defeated R. D. Bacon '29 by a score of 6-3, 6-4, while Galanis easily overcame his opponent, H. B. Wells '29, by the same score.
Lorenzen to Play Sturgis
In the Junior class tennis tournament the finals have not been played and F. W. Lorenzen '28 will meet H. A. Sturgis '28 some time this week in order to determine the champion. In advancing to the finals Sturgis, in a fast match with L. B. Bayard '28, won by a score of 7-5, 4-6, 7-5,while Lorenzen overcame his opponent in the semi finals, W. P. Dobbins '28, 8-6, 6-1.
Seniors Delayed
The Senior tournament has been delayed by the divisional examinations and the semi-finals have not been played. In these Maxwell Davidson Jr. '27 will meet S. H. Sturgis '27 and Charles Smith '27 will play S. L. Eaton '27.
When these tournaments are completed H. L. Cowles, University tennis team coach, will pick the class teams which will then play a round robin tournament to determine the championship team. The members of these teams will also be awarded tennis numerals.
Racquet Men to Go Abroad
During the past week five of the qualifying matches for the team of three that will go abroad this summer were being played. The three winners, with three men from Yale, will sail for England on the Homeric. July 2. wherethey will play during the month of July. At the end of its season abroad the Harvard Yale racquet team will engage the Oxford and Cambridge tennis team.
A number of matches have been arranged on the continent and the six invaders will use Paris and Venice as centers while playing them
The six men in these qualifying matches are J. F. W. Whitbeek '27 P. M. Lenhardt '27, B. R. Whitbeek Jr '29, L. H. Gordon '27. M. T. Hill '30 and Arthur Ingraham Jr '30
