The University soccer team went down to a 1 to 0 defeat at the hands of Northeastern University in a rather slow game on Soldiers Field yesterday.
The only score came early in the first period when Burton of Northeastern kicked a goal on a freak bounce. The Harvard team seemed to have a slight edge through the playing of its defense men, but this advantage was lost because of the inefficiency of the forward line combination. Several times the opponent's goal was threatened, but the finishing punch was lacking, and each rally failed.
Bland Stars at Fullback
J. R. Bland '31 played a stellar defensive game at full back. Louis Kerness '29 was started off in the goal guarding position, and blocked the Northeastern attack accurately after the opening period.
The Northeastern University team has suffered but two defeats in two season of play.
The University second team game with M. I. T. which was to have been played yesterday, will be played tomorrow at 3 o'clock on Soldiers Field.
The summary follows: Substitutions Harvard Cooper for R. C. Carter, Riddle for Tatham, Grover for Carrigan, Score--Northeastern 1, Harvard 0, Goal--Burton. Referse--Daily. Time-four 22 minute periods.
