CRIMSON TRACKMEN RUN OLYMPIC TRIALS

Cummings, Guarnaccia, Hennessy, Porter and Pratt Will Compete-Miller and Luttman Possibilities

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Five members of this spring's University track team have declared their intentions of entering the New England Olympic tryouts as Melrose Stadium Saturday, and have joined the ranks of the Boston Athletic Association for the summer.

On the B. A. A. team which will include runner from 14 New England colleges, F. E. Cummings '30, David Guarnaccia '29, V. L. Hennessy '30, R. P. Porter '29, and C. A. Pratt '28, are expected to be the only undergraduate trackmen from Harvard. A. H. Miller '27, former football and track luminary in the University, and now a student in the Law School, will also don togs with the Boston runners.

Miller to Enter

Miller has been given permission by Lawson Robertson, of the University of Pennsylvania, head coach of the Olympic team, to enter the final tryouts to be held in the stadium on July 6 and 7 without qualifying in previous meets. This privilege has been granted him because preparations for his Law School examinations have prevented him from getting in a needed amount of practice on the cinder track. In the few sprints that he has taken in the Stadium this spring, Miller has shown good form and has been comparatively consistent in equaling and breaking ten seconds on the 100-yard dash. He has entered the Melrose meet, but his entry is conditional.

Have Trained Steadily

Since the Intercollegiates Cummings Guarnaccia, Porter, and Pratt have been working out in the Stadium regularly, and will go under the tutelage of Coach Jack Ryder at University Heights soon.

R. G. Luttman '29, is another member of this year's University team who may enter the Melrose meet. Since all who placed in the Intercollegiates, however, are entitled to enter the final Olympic trials without running in any previous meets, the Crimson miler and Intercollegiate champion, may be on hand at the Stadium the first week in July even though he does not run this weekend.
