EIGHT NAVAL OFFICERS TO STUDY ENGINEERING

WERE SELECTED DURING TERM AT SEA AFTER ANNAPOLIS

Eight officers of the United States Navy will be stationed at the Engineering School next year as successor to the men who are just finishing their year of work here. The men chosen are graduates of Annapolis who have shown especial ability and are given an additional course of training at civil institution.

The men who will be at the University next year are Lieutenant Commander. J. A. Terhune, Lieutenants F. A. Callahan, C. A. Rumble, and Vaughn Bailey, and Lieutenants, junior Grade, W. T. Freseman, W. T. Jones, J.J. Pierrepont, and A. R. Taylor.

Five Years at Sea

After graduating from Annapolis these officers have spent from five to seven years at sea. They have then been selected for special training in radio and electrical work at the University, with one year of post graduate work at Annapolis as a preparation. When they complete their course here next year, they will be given practical training and experience in established firms engaged in electrical work, will finish off with two months of research work at the Bellevue Research Laboratory of the Navy near Washington, D. C., and again resume their posts at sea.

The eight men who are just completing their course here will go to New London immediately after their final examinations for a short period at the Fort Wright sumarine base. After this they will go to various firms in New York to observe industrial application of electrical processes. The General Electric in Schenectady, the Bell Telephone in New York City, and the Radio Corporation of America will be visited.

Following this period, the officers will spend two months in the research laboratory at Bellevne, and then separate for posts at sea. Some will proceed at once of China. Central America, and other stations abroad.

Officers are also stationed in the Business School by both the Army and Navy for work in organization and statistics.
