Smith Family Crosses Century Mark in Directory With the Browns Way Behind--Tribe of Johnson Takes Third Place

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Again, as in past years, the name of Smith is the most popular in the University, having crossed, the goal of 100 names set many years ago. Last year 99 Smiths were registered in the Directory, but they had to wait for another 365 days before they could reach the desired end. This year there are 102 Smiths, 87 as members of the University, and 15 officers.

So says the University Directory, published last Saturday, and on sale at all Cambridge bookstores for 75 cents. It contains the names, local addresses, years and departments of enrolment of all students and officers of Harvard University, listed in two sections. The first, cataloguing the names of the officers is in 29 pages, while the roll of students in the University covers 99 pages.

In 1928, as again this year, the Browns have earned second place. There are, however, 46 now listed in both sections, as compared with only 37 last year. A newcomer in the ranks, the tribe of Johnson, has captured third place showing a tremendous jump from years past. In 1928, the name was not even listed among the most popular, while now it has reached a glorious third, tied only by the Whites, of an old and well-established family. They too were not on the list of frequent names listed in last year's Directory.

The Millers and the Davises have snatched fifth and sixth places respectively, with 39 and 38 representatives of the names. The Davises did not either rate among the most popular last year. The remaining names rank as follows: Jones, 35; Robinson, 34; Taylor, 32; and Cohen, 28.
