RAIN FORCES TEAM TO DRILL IN CAGE

Levin Replaces Junior Out With Stiff Elbow--Backfield for Bates Game is Still Unannounced

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Chary of risking injury to any of his players on the slippery turf of the practice field, Coach Horween took his football squad under shelter of the baseball cage for yesterday afternoon's session. The scheduled scrimmage had to be cancelled in favor of a dummy scrimmage, a signal drill at top speed, and a talk on the football rules by Coach Horween.

Greeley Also Out

F. S. Davis '30, who was slated to start the Bates game on Saturday at right tackle, reported with a badly-bruised and stiff elbow. Davis will not see action in the opening game, but is expected to be in good shape the latter part of next week. He and Greeley, quarterback who is hors de combat owing to an elbow injury, are the only members of the Crimson squad seriously injured. Batchelder, Fullam, Wetmore, and Francis Gilligan were also out of yesterday's workout as a result of minor ailments but will be fit for service against Bates.

Backs a Mystery

The team A line, with Levin replacing the injured Davis, remained intact and in all probability will be selected to aid in the inauguration of the 1929 Harvard season. The starting backfield is still shrouded beneath a veil of mystery. Putnam and Harper seem certain of posts. T. W. Gilligan and Huguley were teamed with the above pair on the first string backfield yesterday afternoon. This is a possible starting quartet, but there is little likelihood of this combination's going into action together. Gilligan has a very good chance of remaining with Putnam and Harper, but that is pure speculation. Who would replace Huguley under these conditions is a wide open question.
