100 MEN ATTEND FIRST WINTER TRACK MEETING

FIRST MEET WILL BE HELD ON JANUARY 31

The winter track season officially got under way yesterday when a meeting of all candidates was held in the new Dillon Field House.

Speaking before approximately 100 men that turned out for the first meeting, E. C. Haggerty '27, assistant University track coach, Jaako Mikkola, field-event coach, Vernon Munroe, Jr. '31. University track captain, and J. R. Collins '32, manager, all gave short talks regarding training, and the prospects of the season. It was also announced by Coach Haggerty that training table would start tomorrow at noon for over 40 of the men.

With the first meet yet about three weeks off, prospects in middle distance events look very good. Captain Munroe, quarter-miler. E. E. Record '32, intercollegiate high-hurdle champion. N. P. Hallowell, Jr. '32, and David Cobb '31, all veterans in the middle distance events will return this year.

Material for the field events is uncertain at this early date, most of the men being inexperienced, with the exception of Oscar Sutermeister '32, intercollegiate pole-vaulting champion. G. W. Kuehn '32, and W. C. Rowe '31, all in the jumping department.

The tentative schedule, for the winter season is as follows: January 31, the K. of C. meet: the morning of February 14, the B. A. A. meet: the afternoon of February 14, the N. E. A. A. U: February 21, the triangular meet with Cornell and Dartmouth (both Freshman and University teams will participate): February 28, the Freshman meet at Andover: March 7, the L. C. 4A indoor meet in New York City: March 7, the Freshman meet at Exeter.
