BATTERED ELEVEN IS GIVEN RESPITE

Crimson Guard will not Play in Contest with Virginia--Only Light Drills Scheduled for this Week

This afternoon will see the Harvard football squad in, its first practice of the week, as yesterday was made a holiday for the battered players. Talbot, Crimson guard, whose leg was injured by the Longhorns, cannot play this Saturday, but it is hoped that he will be in condition for the Dartmouth struggle.

Of the other injured men Hallowell and Myerson will be in togs today, while Kales and Kopans, both hurt last Saturday, are slated to be in harness tomorrow. Crickard's leg injury may keep him out of practice until the end of the week, but he and Moushegian should be eligible for the coming contest with the Southerners.

Coach Casey has planned to hold only light drills this week, and there will be no more than one scrimmage for the University squad, so that the Crimson eleven, pointing to avenge last year's defeat at the hands of Dartmouth and Holy Cross, may take the Virginia game in its stride.

The Southerners come to Cambridge with an unimpressive record. They have lost their last four games by gradually increasing margins to Maryland, Sewanee, Virginia Military Institute, and Washington and Lee. There should be no repetition of last year's disgraceful tie with a much underrated Williams and Mary eleven, when a disillusioned Crimson team barely pulled itself out of defeat.

Last Saturday's game showed a superb Harvard eleven in the first half, although it let down in the second. If the Crimson team continues to play during the rest of the season in the same fashion that it has started off the first, it should have little difficulty until the epic Yale contest. No such chance for an untarnished Crimson football record has been seen for many years, and if not further crippled the Harvard eleven has a fine chance for an undefeated season.
