YALE'S ATHLETIC CONTROL

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Yale wisely has decided to bring its supervision of athletic sports more closely into contact with the academic administration of the University. The decision to remove sports from the control of the Alumni is only logical in the face of the great changes that have come about in the relations between sports and the contemporary educational systems.

The growth of athletic activity which will come in the wake of Yale's House Plan has made the reported action timely. The advance recognition of the essential part to be played by formal and informal sports in the social fabric of the new Yale is evidence of a far-sighted policy in New Haven. The inclusion of undergraduates as well as business and academic representatives on the new board of control presages an athletic administration at once broad-minded and qualified to cope with the problems that will be peculiar to Yale.

The more formation of a physical organization cannot be said to meet the changing situations created by the reconstruction of the Yale society. Evidence of the value of this new system must be sought in its operation. The soundness of policy which led to the realignment of administrative power augurs well, however, and Yale's experience will be observed with interest.
