LACK OF VETERANS WILL HAMPER CROSS COUNTRY

Mikkola Hopes To Develop Fair Team With Practice--Large Squad Comes Out at Meeting

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With a preliminary meeting that netted a large squad of candidates yesterday afternoon, Coach Jaakko Mikkola began preparation for a difficult cross country season. "The squad has nothing on paper," Mikkola said, but intimated that, with a lot of practice, it could probably be rounded into fairly good shape.

Only one veteran, Captain Arthur Foote '33, is available as a nucleus for the team this year, although several second string men of last season are expected to show up well. Ranking next to Foote from last year are J. M. Estabrook '34, James Parton '34, and A. B. Hallowell '34, J. W. Putnam '33, T. A. Robinson '34, J. V. White '34, J. B. White '34, and J. E. Rogerson '34. Hallowell will probably be unable to run due to a recent accident.

Considerable strength is also counted upon from the Freshman team of a year ago, which included E. F. Bowditch '35, N. M. Goodhue '35, A. S. Pier, Jr. '35, H. T. Pierpont, Jr. '35, W. E. Post, Jr. '35, E. S. Roys '35, J. P. Scheu '35, and C. F. Woodard '35.

New Hampshire, the first meet on their schedule, is expected to give the harriers plenty of trouble, as that team will be composed entirely of the veterans who won the New England intercollegiate championship last year. A triangular meet will be held with Yale and Princeton but the scoring will be done as in a series of three dual meets between the three teams. Yale, according to indications, is expected to put out an excellent team this year
