CRIMSON TO OPEN COMPETITIONS ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT

Sophomores Have Excellent Chance to Fill Several Vacancies on Business Board--Editorial Board Open

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With a preliminary meeting Wednesday evening, November 7, the CRIMSON will open its first competition for members of the Class of 1938. News, Business, and Photographic Departments will be open to Freshmen, while Sophomores will be allowed to compete for the Editorial and Business Boards. The preliminary meeting will be held on Wednesday, at 7.30 o'clock, in the President's office at the CRIMSON Building, 14 Plympton Street, and the actual work of the various competitions will begin on the following morning, Thursday, November 8.

After a general explanation Wednesday night of the work of the competition, the heads of the various departments will describe to the prospective candidates the organization of the paper and the nature of the four competitions. All competitions will be eight weeks in length and will end before the mid-year examination period.

The Business Competition

Sophomores who enter the Business competition will be in a particular advantageous position due to the fact that there are now only a few members of the Class of 1937 on the Board. As a result of this, Sophomores who are taken on will be in direct line for the Business managership at the end of next year.

During the first few weeks of this competition, the candidate will work under the personal supervision of an experienced editor. In this period he will be expected to learn the routine methods of procedure. Later he will be judged entirely on the originally he shows in meeting the needs of his clients. A major aim of the competition is to have candidates meet and know the business men of Harvard Square and Boston.

No experience is necessary for this competition. All men who are willing and eager to learn more of the powerful economic forces in play in their everyday life are cordially invited to learn the details of this competition at its first meeting, Wednesday, November 7
