Doctor Serge Elisseeff of the University of Paris has been appointed director of the Yenching Institute and professor of Far-Eastern Languages it was learned yesterday. He will assume his new duties in September.
Doctor Elisseeff, who will be the first director of the Yenching Institute, has held a professorship at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes of the University of Paris since February, 1930. Between the years 1921 and 1929 he served as an interpreter at the Japanese Embassy in Paris. In 1925 he was appointed expert on Japanese civilization to serve on a subcommittee of the League of Nations.
