CASEY GIVES VARSITY LONG PRACTICE DRILL

RESULTS TO DETERMINE LINEUP FOR BATES GAME

Long drills in all departments were the chief features of yesterday's football practice. Coach Eddie Casey apparently figured that his gridsters needed plenty of rehearsal and something of a rest before this afternoon's crucial scrimmage.

A good part of the lineup for the Bates opener will be decided by the individual performances turned in this afternoon. Hence the coaching staff wanted to check up on each and every slant of the great sport of pigskin chasing.

Things started with a place kicking and punting drill for the backs. Then Wes Fesler went into a huddle with the end squad and spent half an hour explaining possible situations and what to do about them. Wes is rather an expert on that subject, you know.

In the meantime the backfield men were put through a live tackling drill, with three backs trying to wipe out one defenceless ball carrier. Varsity and Jayvee backs alternated as live targets. When the massacre was over the backs turned their attention to pass attack and defense. The linemen worked out with Adam Walsh. Practice closed with a blackboard talk and signal drill.

One item that cheered up Eddie Casey was the news that Tommy Bilodeau, Braman Gibbs, Johnny Adzigian, Craig Woodruff, and Frank Owen, all of whom made the trans-Pacific trip with the baseball team this summer, will report for practice on Monday. Bilodeau was one of the most promising backs on the Fresh- man team last year while Gibbs and Adzigian both saw regular service with the Varsity.

For the signal drill Casey divided the squad into three teams without regard to ranking. The A team was: Dubiel (Beaudreau), le; Simmons, lt; Schumann, lg; Casale, c; Littlefield, rg; Adlis, rt; Knapp, (Berry), re; Haley, qb; Litman, lhb; Fuller, rhb; Ecker, fb. The B team was: Geer, le; Spring (Millard), lt; Brookings, lg; Comfort, c; Blatchford, rg; Burton, rt; Kelly, re; Hedblom, qb; Locke, lhb; Blackwood, rhb; McTernan, fb. The C team: Sullivan, le; Lane, lt; Husband, lg; Jones (Little), c; Young, rg; Watson, rt; Connors, re; Ford, qb; Moseley (Parquette) lhb; Watt, rhb; Jackson, fb
