LANDIS APPOINTMENT AS LAW DEAN RUMORED

CONANT TOLD CRIMSON NOTHING DEFINITE YET

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Rumor that James M. Landis, present chairman of the Federal Securities Exchange Commission, had been appointed Dean of the Law School fiared up anew early this morning, despite the fact that President Conant told the CRIMSON that nothing was definite as yet.

The Boston Globe declared that they had learned of Landis' appointment "from a highly reliable source." The only official sources through which this rumor could be confirmed, namely the President and Fellows of the University, could not be contacted at the time the statement appeared. Edmund M. Morgan '02, professor of Law and acting dean of the school, declared that he had no statement to make on the subject.

Conant Says Nothing Definite

On Saturday morning, President Conant told the CRIMSON that nothing had been definitely decided, and declared that no immediate solution to the problem of picking the new Dean of the School was expected.

Regarding this afternoon's Corporation meeting, at which time the Globe intimated that an official appointment would be announced, President Conant said that no announcement "on the order of" the Law School Dean would come out.
