STOCKROOM ATTENDANT CHUM OF PITTSBURGH'S TRAYNOR

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Listening to ball games via a radio located in a section man's office, Lee Powell, veteran baseball fan and a stockroom attendant in the Chemistry A, Laboratory, is perfectly satisfied with life. Powell is a personal friend of Pie Traynor, Manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who also lives in Somerville.

"I've seen all the great players," said Powell, interviewed yesterday, "I saw Babe Ruth the first time he came to Boston and I saw Lou Gehrig take Olly Pipp's place at first base, and lots of others."

He has attended two games a week for the past 28 seasons. "I remember the time when if they got more than four hits off Walter Johnson they run up the flag," he declared, somewhat embarrassed at being interviewed. "But the new lively ball has changed all that," he added a bit sadly, "they depend on slugging now instead of playing real baseball."
