American Civilization Plan Opens With Talk by Jones

Freshmen Hold Discussion in Union on "Causes of Revolution"

President Conant's revitalized American Civilization Plan was launched last night with a talk in Leverett House on "Americanism" by Howard Mumford Jones, professor of English, while simultaneously the Freshmen held a round-table discussion on "Causes of the American Revolution" at the Union.

Adams House Meeting Tonight

Ownership of land and the individualism which it produces were described by Professor Jones as characteristic of the American spirit in history and literature. His listeners then debated the influence of industrialism and modern insecurity on these basic elements.

Tonight's meetings, similarly informal, and limited in length to one hour will be at Adams House, where "American Democracy" is to be discussed, and at Kirkland; where the subject is "Social conditions in Elizabethan England."
