Springfield Wins N.E. Crown By Beating Crimson Booters

Soccer Team Loses 2-1 as Lew Vorley Scores; Yardlings Win

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Coach Jack Carr's soccer team went down to defeat at the hands of an undefeated Springfield eleven Saturday afternoon by a 2 to 1 score as the Gymnasts refused to be stopped in their march towards the New England crown.

Harvard's goal was by Lew Vorley, substitute left inside, who replaced Prenny Willetts and saved the Crimson booters from the ignominy of a shutout.

The Springfield tallies were made by Monroe and Mortenson. The victory gives the Athletes virtual possession of the New England league title.

Yardlings Trounce Tufts

The Yardling booters, led by their captain, Jack Calhoun, who scored two sensational goals, trounced the Tufts Freshmen Friday afternoon by a 4 to 1 margin.

Merk and Mayger scored the other two Crimson goals as the strong '43 team carried the play into enemy territory during most of the game.
