SQUAD OFF FOR PHILADELPHIA

Pessimism Reigns as Hour Exams, Bruises Prevail

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Hour exams and key injuries have made it difficult for Harvard to build up resistance this week for the powerful Pennsylvania Quakers. Joe Gardella has almost no chance of participating in the game, and Loren MacKiney will not be in top shape for 60 minutes of bruising football. A muscle injury is slowing him up considerably.

Mort Waldstein and Bill Brown will have to plug the hole left at the bucking role when a Princeton game charley horse put the Crimson captain on the shelf. MacKinney will play as much as he can Saturday at left end, with Bill Barnes spelling him off. The versatile Chapel Hill Junior will not be used at quarterback unless George Helden is hurt.

Pass Drill

Dick Harlow spent a lot of time yesterday putting his boys through their forward passing paces in addition to the regular defensive measures against Penn plays. Harlow is a wizard in rigging up sound defenses for special kinds of attacks so his men will give a good account of themselves as long as they are fresh. But Penn's tremendous depth is one of the major worries for Harvard coaches these days.

The squad will entrain for Philadelphia at 12:45 o'clock tonight, arriving tomorrow morning and proceeding out to Franklin Field for a short workout.
