Working out in Briggs Cage early each afternoon is a potentially better than average Freshman baseball team, which is shaping up for a week of practice in the South during vacation.
Although confined to indoor practice as yet, the Yardlings have promise of developing into a powerful aggregation, featured by a good mound staff and a promising group of batsmen.
Competition for all positions is exceedingly keen, and though it is impossible to pick an actual team, yet Bill Barnes seems slated for first, either Bart Harvey or Alan Read for second, and Art Scully at short. Either George Harding or Bill Harrison will cover third.
Bud Waldstein leads the pitching staff with Bob Luskin and Joe Phelan backing him up. Jerry Callanan and Jay McConville are competing for catcher, while Caleb Loring, Bob Axtell, and Bob Potter are likely outfielders.
