Methods for Testing Paint Materials Shown

Panel Discussion on Oils, Technique Also Planned by Fogg Art Museum

Scientific methods of testing modern artists' painting materials will be displayed in an exhibition beginning next Friday in the Fogg Art Museum.

A panel discussion, the purpose of which is to acquaint the artist with modern views on materials and painting techniques, will be held the same afternoon between three and five o'clock in the large lecture Hall of the Museum.

Showing the work done by the Paint Testing and Research Laboratory of the Massachusetts W. P. A. the exhibit will display panels and photographs showing how artists' materials. Principally oils are tested by chemical, microscopic, and physical methods.

Some of the specimens to the exhibited will show the faulty use of good painting materials, and a series of panels will display the permanence of modern pigments in fresco.

Several prominent Boston artists have been asked to submit questions to the panel, over which Mr. Robert began. Chairman of the Department of Fine Arts at Connection College will preside. The questions submitted will be limited to paint materials and painting techniques.
