Picketers at Wheeler Talk Parade in Peace

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Muttering "keep quiet, keep moving" to prevent the provocations of American Firsters from getting under their skin, a Fight for Freedom Committee picket line paraded up and down in front of Mechanics Hall for several hours Saturday night.

While the crowd was moving inside the Hall to hear Wheeler speak on isolation, the picket line was invaded by a rival group carrying America First placards. Special instruction on non-violence given the interventionist picketers prevented a clash.

Police Support Pickets

Since Boston's Police Commissioner is a member of the Fight for Freedom Committee, the picket line officials were able to gain police protection, and a lawyer was on hand in case any disturbance occured. Contrary to report, the Irish cops did not wear America First badges.

David P. Bennett '42, President of the Student Union, organized the Harvard section of the line. When the America First rally broke up, the pickets, recruited from numerous colleges nearby, moved into the Ritz-Plaza Hall to hear several Fight for Freedom speakers, including Henry B. Cabot, Chairman of the New England division.
