Dental-Medical School To Accelerate Course

Following the lead of the Medical School, which announced recently that it plans to present an accelerated course to their students, the Harvard School of Dental Medicine revealed yesterday that they too will speed up their schedule.

Instead of the five-years originally planned to get both the M.D. and the D.M.D. degrees, the course as now envisioned can be completed in four and one half years. Although the college and other graduate schools are cutting down the number of courses required for a degree, neither the Medical nor the Dental-Medical schools will take such action.

Work Begins July 1

Before the new plan was announced the school was using part of the summer months for instruction. Now the work will begin this year on July 1, and run eight months to March 1. Another eight-month session, running about to December, will then be held. The school will be held on an eight-month or, one month off schedule. The University has not yet announced its policy on Christmas and Easter vacations that fall during the eight-month period.

March Class Not Fixed

There is still some question as to whether the Dental-Medical School will admit a class in March at the beginning of the second session, as the Medical School is doing.

The chances are that the school will admit its full quota of 15 students, in July, though this is not yet definite.

Opening last September, the school is the first of its kind in the country, making its graduates both dentists and doctors. The purpose is to give both doctors and dentists a more complete picture of the human body so both professions with be able to take better care of their patients.
