Puritans Lead League As Goldcoasters Fade

Winthrop's perennial hockey champs became unchallenged league leaders again last night as their chief contender, Adams, lost, 5 to 1, to a fast skating Dunster sextet. The Puritans won their closest victory of the season, however, defeating an out-classed but hard-fighting Leverett by only 2 to 1.

The highlight of the evening at the Skating Club was the Lowell team's 5-0 victory over Eliot with Ed Gray scoring twice, and Do Danner, Mike Thompson, and Tom Moseley each making one tally.

In the fourth contest of the series last night, the Dudley Ramblers staged a fast comeback after Kirkland's sextet had scored four goals in the first period holding the Ramblers scoreless. With Art Murphy and Bill Kilfoyle scoring twice, and three other tallies from the rest of the team, they pulled the game out of the fire 7 to 4.

One of the outstanding individuals was George Stevens of Dunster, high-scorer of the evening with three goals to his credit. The rest of the Funster tallies were netted by two fellow forwards Barry White and Dick Kurth, and a fast skating defense man, Charlie Brown.

Although no one stood out particularly in the Winthrop-Leverett tilt, the Puritans owed much of their success to the fine skating of Bill Fitz and Stan Collinson, each of whom made one goal. The lone Bunny score was made by Sophomore Bill Close. Don Forte, football captain last fall appeared in the Goldcoaster's lineup, playing a fine game at the defense.
