PRESIDENT LOWELL HONORED BY POETS

Tribute Payed by T. S. Eliot, Other Norton Professors

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

T. S. Eliot, noted American-born writer of verse, and four other former holders of the Charles Eliot Norton Professorship of Poetry, have expressed tribute to President Emeritus A. Lawrence Lowell, in a letter received from England, the University, announced last night.

The other signers of the letter are Gilbert Murray, Regins Professor of Greek, Boars Hill Oxford, Eric Maclagan, director of the Victoria and Albert Museum, H. W. Garrod, Fellow of Merton College, Oxford, and A. M. Hind, Keeper of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum.

In the letter the "sense of personal loss" felt at the news of President Lowell's death and the admiration for his work and character were expressed by the five distinguished English scholars. The letter went on to praise President Lowell for the kindness and hospitality shown to them on his part and to land his record as President of the University.
