Cooperation With Reds Possible, Forum Votes

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In the fifth Lowell House Forum, on the critical question, "Can we cooperate with Russia?", 51 expressed the optimistic opinion that we could, seven voted that we could not, and three besides Henry C. Thomson were puzzled.

First speaker of the evening, Thomson, teaching fellow in Government, called for realism in dealing with Russia, saying "There is no use pinning a halo on Uncle Joe Stalin." He suggested that the Soviet Union may become as militaristic as Germany.

That Russia's philosophy has changed from one of championing proletariat revolt to one solely for the betterment of the fatherland, was the view expressed by R. C. Macridis, teaching fellow in Government. He predicts that the Soviet's party line will change when the United States and England are exhausted, revealing the old Czarist idea of expansion.

Professor Hans Kohn, visiting lecturer on Government and prisoner in Russia during the last war, said that we can and must cooperate with Russia.
